Last week, during a Belgian trade mission to China, the Chinese General Administration of Customs (GACC) and the Belgian Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV) signed a partnership contract regarding bell pepper exports. Chinese authorities also confirmed that Belgium can export chicory to their country. The FAVV anticipates the same will follow for more Belgian fruits and vegetables later this year.
Thorough company inspections and FAVV agent in Beijing
Belgian companies are increasingly focusing on exports and expect government support in that regard. The FAVV is a vital export support partner for those businesses. China's export rules are strict, so inspection teams from that country thoroughly scrutinize those Belgian producers eligible to export to China.
The FAVV receives these delegations and facilitates company inspections. An FAVV inspector accompanying a check at a Belgian company immediately demonstrated that Belgian products meet strict food safety standards.
In 2020, an FAVV employee also permanently joined the Belgian embassy in Beijing as a "sanitary attaché." They facilitate collaboration and negotiations with China.
