US (PA): Goodwill greenhouse is growing

In November, Goodwill Industries hired a new greenhouse supervisor, Hilliary Davey. Davey, 26, of Brockway, has a green thumb and started working with plants in her home and garden, according to a Goodwill press release.

“I think this job was meant for me. When I first saw the posting, I didn’t know about the training program and what it does for the people in the program,” Davey said. “I thought I would just be supervising a greenhouse, but it is so much more than that.”

The Goodwill Greenhouse started in 2015 with a small temporary greenhouse and a few garden beds. Over the years, the program has grown to include multiple garden beds, raised beds, and a high-tunnel, and the main greenhouse at 101 Preston Way in the Falls Creek Industrial Park. The mission of the Goodwill Greenhouse is to help individuals learn how to care for plants from seed to sale.

“I am very excited to see what Hilliary brings to the Goodwill table. She has some great ideas, and hopefully we can get them rolling quickly,” said Davey’s supervisor, Nick Suplizio, vice president of Donation Procurement/Development and Transportation/Logistics/Plant Operations for Goodwill Industries of North Central PA. “She is very energetic and eager to learn.”
