"Market demand for our strawberries is very good at the moment"

That's what grower Wim de Weert shares from Portugal. He grows strawberries there and has been doing so for 15 years, as he told us just this autumn. Meanwhile, the harvest of the Favori variety has begun.

"Due to the somewhat fresher nights now in December in the Algarve, the harvest is coming on well at the moment, a little later than expected," he writes on LinkedIn. "Despite the night temperature of around 5ÂșCelsius, the flavor development is very good, due to the many hours of sunshine we get daily (approx. 1100 Joules/cm2). The shelf life of the fruit is fine, partly due to the low humidity in the greenhouses here."

Wim is affiliated with Veiling Zaltbommel.
