Tomato seedlings in greenhouse in Antalya, Turkey destroyed by using herbicide

A tomato greenhouse in Antalya's Kumluca district was damaged by an unidentified person or persons with herbicide. Greenhouse owner Yasar Avcu stated that the 15,000 USD worth of products he was about to harvest were all destroyed. Herbicide was applied to tomato seedlings in the 2000 sq m tomato greenhouse belonging to Yasar Avcu by an unidentified person or persons. As a result of this situation, the seedlings died.

Yasar Avcu said, “I did no harm to anyone. I take care of these tomatoes like my children. How could they do such a thing? Whatever they were going to do, they should have come and done it to me. I wish they had talked to me face to face."

Avcu stated that there are 3,800 root seedlings in his greenhouse, and he expected to earn 15,000 USD from the tomatoes he was going to harvest from these seedlings. However, he said that agricultural engineers said that all the seedlings would slowly die. Avcu said, “I have a loss of 15,000 USD. Agricultural engineers told me that there is nothing to do. From now on, I will have to remove these seedlings and plant new seedlings. How will I plant these new seedlings with no money?"
