"Orticoltura tecnica in campo" was conceived more than 25 years ago in Guidizzolo, a small town in northern Italy that is not far from Lake Garda. This was an idea coming from 3 founding companies: Ferrari Growtech, Idromeccanica Lucchini, and Gremizzi Nurseries. Their will was to open the doors of their factories to customers. At that time, these were the very first "open house" experiments aimed at showing visitors where the farm equipment they already knew from the field was produced.
The next edition will be held from January 24 to 26, 2024. The last edition, dated January 2020, was the meeting point of more than 3.300 professionals coming from forty different countries. This is an event attracting highly qualified visitors since the invitations are mainly generated from a database including selected farmers and dealers. Through the years, the organizers could appreciate the fact that, apart from being attracted by the event itself, visitors are enthusiastic about the possibility of getting in touch with other business realities specialized in vegetable production. Thus, people can share information and ideas and sometimes define cooperation projects. Orticoltura Tecnica in Campo indeed creates the opportunity to share experiences.
In order to involve and arouse curiosity in the largest possible number of people, decision was made to focus on field demonstrations, which meant showing the machines at work. The three companies decided to arrange the event in a period of the year when farmers are traditionally less busy: winter. To accomplish this aim and to overcome the problem of potentially unfavorable weather conditions, a multiple-span greenhouse was installed near the Ferrari factory. That was the ideal place to organize the event without having to worry about rain, snow, or muddy soil.
Everything seemed to work fine, but it was not enough. To involve the participants, this event could not lose its appeal. Visitors expected to see new products every year. However, it was not possible for the three founders to offer that. Therefore, the show became a biennial, and, more important, other partners were engaged. Companies manufacturing farm machinery or dealing with products and services that over the years turned out to be essential for vegetable farmers, both of small and big dimensions.
This was the receipt to develop an event that nowadays counts on the participation of more than fifty companies, all of them involved in the vegetable farming supply chain. The goal was to make farmers aware of new technologies, ideas, and opportunities that were functional to the improvement of their production techniques and of their company profitability.
This event, in other words, is the result of many years of hard work and sacrifices to create an exhibition that today generates great interest amongst specialized operators of the vegetable farming industry.
Orticoltura Tecnica in Campo is a complete supply chain project starting from the seed varieties to seed genetics. Nursery technologies: greenhouses, seeding lines, and seedling growing techniques. Open field machinery: field leveling with laser, basic soil preparation, as well as specific ground working tools for precision seeding and precision transplant. Additional demonstrations involve the technologies for plant protection and smart weeding. Mechanized harvesting and specialized harvesting for small vegetables. Satellite-based GPS, telescopic forklifts, and much more. Most of these machines can be seen in action during the event.
The exhibition program includes a series of demos, each one lasting approximately seven minutes. Simultaneous demos are not allowed in order to make sure the visitors are focusing on every machine presented at the show. Every demo will be introduced by a national-renowned agronomist, Professor Lorenzo Benvenuti, from Padua University. Foreign guests will receive headsets to listen to the presentation of each machine in their own language. Inside the demo area, visitors will be offered the opportunity to see machinery on static display and to talk to the manufacturers.
In the afternoon, after a comfortable lunch break offered at FERRARI's premises, the participants will be able to attend conferences and thematic seminars. Some companies are going to present their products, while professional agronomists will address technical-horticultural topics that are of great relevance in this historical period.
In the meantime, visitors will have the possibility to book a specific field demo with one of the machines shown during the morning and go over more details. All guests will have the opportunity to interact with the exhibitors in order to get technical information and to receive customized offers.
Orticoltura Tecnica in Campo represents the only worldwide event specific to vegetable farming in which machines can be seen at work according to a sequential schedule of subsequent demos. This is the only specialized show starting from the beginning of a supply chain cycle and getting to the end of it. It is the only event where each product has its own dedicated space at a specific moment of the day in order to receive the necessary attention from the public.
