From Lowcountry Food Bank breaking ground at the Southern Carolina Industrial Campus in Hampton County to the early phase of construction of a new Agriculture Technology Campus, economic development projects are underway in Hampton County and around the region, according to Southern Carolina Regional Development Alliance (SCA) officials.
"It's fall in the SCA region, and although the temperature is becoming slightly cooler, our region continues to be a hot spot for economic development and innovation!" said SCA Chairman Marty Sauls in the alliance's fall newsletter. The newsletter announced two projects in Hampton County as well as several others around the SCA region.
Dirt is moving at Agriculture Technology Campus
The SCA reports that bulldozers have begun moving dirt on the construction of the new Agriculture Technology Campus at the Southern Carolina Industrial Campus in Hampton County. It is expected that the first 68 acres will be ready for construction in 30 days, with the goal being a 1,000-acre campus upon completion.
This campus is expected to include greenhouses for locally grown, pesticide-free tomatoes, leafy greens, blueberries, and other produce; a 150,000-square-foot distribution center; and a co-packing facility. This project marks one of the largest agriculture investments in South Carolina's history.
