Corrosion risk in solar panel systems

As a result of high energy prices and the energy transition that has begun, growers have started heating their greenhouses with lower temperatures. As a result, corrosion in heating systems is lurking again. However, water treatment to prevent corrosion is also important in other systems in greenhouses. Spirotech provides such solutions. Water treatment is just as necessary in cooling systems or solar panel systems.

As is generally known, many companies have recently invested heavily in these. But here too, corrosion risks lurk, and not everyone seems to be aware of this. "Proper engineering of such systems is really necessary," says Area Sales Manager Martijn Worst. "Otherwise, such an expensive investment will run away from you fast. If you don't pay close attention, blockages or leaks can occur due to corrosion within just two years."

When venting systems with solar panels, Spirotech chooses to pre-cool the water before venting. This is because the water can reach temperatures of up to 160 degrees Celsius here. "Most degassers we make can handle temperatures up to 90 degrees Celsius, with an expansion vessel in front of it up to 70 degrees."

Need
With every change in terms of heating or cooling or innovations, such as with solar panels, it is important to think again about preventing corrosion. ''We experienced the process in the installation world from the beginning. At first, people did not see the need. Until examples of serious problems became known. Now it is commonplace, especially in large installations, nobody argues about investing in degassers anymore.

Through Zantingh, Spirotech now reaches the first problems with heating systems in horticulture as a result of firing at lower temperatures. "Growers then still don't always know where to look for the cause. We then examine the installation on site and drain water. After that, we can find the cause with a laboratory test of the water at our own location with a laboratory in Belgium. Nine times out of 10, it is corrosion." The use of degassers and expansion machines is currently in its infancy in the sector, but in Helmond, as in the utility sector, they expect the systems to become more popular soon.
