RKW HyJet® nonwoven crop cover:

Focus on reliability, longer lifetime, reusability, and flexibility

RKW HyJet® nonwoven crop cover was created with increasing crop yields in mind, focusing on key benefits, reliability, longer lifetime, multi-reusability, and great flexibility, and can be used for all crops, vegetables, fruits, and flowers which need protection against external influences like wind, frost, and animals.

The demand has been developing steadily, and it can be used as an equivalent to perforated films. The product is mainly used in the DACH region, Nordics (Scandinavia and UK), and Benelux, but also in Southern Europe and South America, there is a market for nonwovens as crop protection.

Key benefits
The crop cover was made to be highly reliable and has up to 50% higher tear resistance in comparison to traditional nonwoven crop cover, according to the company (see Figure 1). “The feedback we’ve been getting also underlies our key benefits. Especially reliability and longer lifetime are key arguments for our customers to decide for RKW HyJet,” says Nico Landwehrjohann, product manager of RKW Agri GmbH & Co. KG.

As the cover lies evenly on the plants, so there is practically no crop damage because of the flapping fleece, and it also provides excellent water distribution, air permeability, and light transmission, supporting a good climate for the plants. Thanks to the unique loop structure, it also has a longer lifetime and can be used multiple times, up to 3 or 4 seasons. According to users in Central Europe, UV stability lasts up to 2 seasons. Due to its flexible material structure, RKW HyJet features optimal elasticity, making a 3-5% stretch in width possible, and it doesn’t need any edge reinforcement.

“The demand for strong, reliable nonwoven crop cover will increase. Good quality crops and less harvesting losses are very important to growers. In addition, the topic of sustainability is becoming more and more important, and therefore, long-lasting products will become more relevant for farmers,” Nico concludes.
