Companies in horticulture have two major struggles: labor costs and energy. Leon Verkoelen of Bogaerts Greenhouse Logistics: "As a builder of internal logistics systems, we are very much concerned with that first topic. It actually contains everything we deal with every day. Labor is scarce, with the result that the cost per labor hour keeps rising. And there seems to be no end in sight."
Last week, the team received a visit from Van Gog Kwekerijen in their facility in Hoogstraten, Belgium. Van Gog Kwekerijen already uses their scissor trolleys, sprayers, and machines to clean the greenhouses during crop rotation.
The latter, greenhouse cleaning machines, by the way, are used for both the greenhouse deck, cultivation gutters, tube-rail system, and insect netting. Leon: "These machines are easy to adjust by track width. Companies like Van Gog Kwekerijen, with several branches, very easily move these machines to another location."
Van Gog Kwekerijen uses Bogaerts machines in both their Dutch and German locations for pepper, strawberry, cucumber, and tomato cultivation.
During the visit, the complete production and assembly lines were viewed, including a tour of the new site under construction. Detailed discussions were held on how the future is seen in terms of crop protection, harvesting, and product processing.
Leon: "It is very nice to exchange ideas with leading growers. Staying abreast of what's going on and showing what we are doing is obviously a win-win for all parties."
