2023 British Tomato Conference scheduled for September 21

It's that time of year again when the British Tomato Growers' Association is building up to their annual conference!

"We're excited to invite you to immerse yourself in the world of commercial tomato production with us and learn from influential industry experts who will be discussing a range of important and insightful topics, including crop production, succession, labor, energy and carbon, and current market trends," the organizers share.

There will also be the opportunity to join in a panel session hosted by a range of experts, discussing the Tomato Brown Rugose Fruit Virus, which has proved to be one of the most significant production challenges for tomato growers over the past decade.

Included in the program are:

  • A word from the main sponsor - Rijk Zwaan
  • UK Tomato market update - Joseph Shaw-Roberts, Kantar
  • British Tomato Fortnight 2023 roundup - Abi Clayton & Nyree Ambarchian, Jack & Grace
  • NFU Horticulture update/policy outlook for horticulture - Martin Emmett, NFU
  • Apprenticeships: what we've learned - Hugh Lowe Farms
  • Energy outlook for the industry & Carbon Budgets - Jon Swain, NFU Energy
  • The new face of horticulture crop protection in the UK - Simon Conway, HCP Ltd
  • ToBRFV – research, resistance, policy and grower experiences - Panel: Adrian Fox (Fera Science Ltd); Enza Zaden; Rijk Zwaan; Matthew Everatt (Defra); Nick Arnst (La Serra)

As an in-person event, throughout the day, you'll also have plenty of opportunity to meet and network with like-minded individuals, including industry contacts, colleagues old and new, and engage with an array of expert trade stand companies. Discussions will extend into the evening with a drinks reception and conference dinner, where the exceptional Minette Batters, NFU President, will join as keynote speaker.

"Although this event is designed for growers, we also welcome researchers, suppliers, retailers, and everyone across the supply chain who wish to support and gain insight into the British tomato industry," the organizers share.
