The former Hartman greenhouses in Sexbierum have a new owner. The complex had been up for sale since the end of last year. The buyer is De Schoenmaker Group from Bladel in Brabant. This company specializes in large-scale solar energy projects but told Omrop Fryslân it will use the greenhouses for cultivation.
DSG director Maurice Schoenmakers says he is looking at climate cells for vertical vegetable and herb cultivation.
There are already 1,900 solar panels in the greenhouse complex. The buyer wants to expand that number. There will also be seed cultivation in one-half of the 28.5-hectare glass complex, and the buyer wants to organize fish and seaweed farming in the greenhouses. Through the Investment and Development Agency for the Northern Netherlands (NOM), talks have been held with a salmon farmer and a seaweed grower who want to use the complex.
The new buyer will take over the greenhouses from Best Fresh Group, which took over the greenhouses after Hartman's bankruptcy. High energy prices forced organic grower Quality Life Produce, the cultivation arm of Bioworld, a sister company of Best Fresh, to halt cultivation. Full details of the acquired complex can be read on the broker's website.
