US (TX): Greenhouse lettuce farm uses 90% less water and no chemicals

A new lettuce farm in Texas named Revol Greens uses greenhouse technology with various benefits for the consumer and the environment. It produces greens locally using fewer natural resources and no unnecessary chemicals, according to the company website.

The farm uses 90% less water than traditional farming, according to the company. It captures the rainwater or snowmelt from the roofs of their facilities to supply irrigation water. Then, the water is sterilized through a chemical-free process and dispersed.

The company operates four greenhouses, one in Minnesota, California, and Georgia, and the newest addition is in Temple, Texas. The 20-acre farm is centrally located to reduce transportation time and distance and provide four-day fresher products, the company states.

Revol Green’s CEO, Michael Wainscott, told KXAN in Austin that the Temple location is the largest lettuce greenhouse in the world.
