VBT figures week 26:

Tomato and cucumber price recovery, pepper price dives further

The longest day of the year is behind us, and so is the highest production peak. Early last week, the remaining kilos of tomatoes were still being traded here and there, but then the price found its way up again. On the VBT clocks, the average price climbed slightly, although prices in week 26 for loose and vine tomatoes still could not match the five-year average.

An average of 37.2 euro cents was paid for a kilo of vine tomatoes in week 26. For a kilo of loose tomatoes, slightly more: 41 euro cents.

The price of cucumbers also found its way back up slightly. The average price here comes out at just under 22 euro cents each. This still puts the price below the five-year average, but at least it follows the five-year trend, where prices tend to rise after June.

The pepper price fell a little further last week. Only yellow peppers evaded this a little, with minimal price recovery to 78 euro cents per kilo. Red peppers went for 85.5 euro cents, green 81, and orange is invariably the best-paid color: just under 1.56 euro per kilo in week 26.

A big upturn in the price can be seen for aubergines. These fetched an average of 83 euro cents per kilo last week. More than 30 euro cents more than the week before. None of the other greenhouse vegetables in the overview of figures can match this, although the increase in green celery from the greenhouse comes close. The unit price rises above 1 euro in week 26.

Strawberry also saw an upturn in price. Here, the price climbed above the five-year average again in week 26. The average kilo price for blackberries also rose. Both blackberries and raspberries have to pay more than 8 euros per kilo on average, an average price for the time of year.
