Tomatoes grown in geothermal greenhouse in Kirklareli, Turkey started to be exported abroad

A greenhouse was established on an area of 5.5 hectares by an investment company in the village of Asilbeyl in Kirklareli, Turkey. Tomatoes, which have been produced using geothermal water resources for about 5 months, are exported to countries such as Bulgaria, Romania, and Germany. There are also 65 hive bees in the greenhouse for the fertilization of the products.

Huseyin Kerkez, the general manager of the investor company, told the press that they brought geothermal water to the greenhouse from 3 wells. He explained that they spread the heat homogeneously to the greenhouse with the rail system and noted that they could produce 12 months of the year thanks to the system. Kerkez emphasized that they are producing on an area of 5.5 hectares, and their target is to increase the production area to 50 hectares in a short time.

Pointing out that they have an annual production capacity of 3,500 tons, Kerkez said, "We are currently producing with 65 personnel. This number increases to 100 from time to time. We produce added-value products. Because we produce and export, it is beneficial for the country, as there is foreign exchange inflow to our country." Expressing that they work with a production capacity of 150-200 tons per week, Kerkez added that they export 50 tons of this weekly production to European countries.
