The downside of ultrafiltration is that they often require a larger floor space than a UV would, for example. When a new greenhouse is being built, this is not a problem. It does become a problem when ultrafiltration needs to be installed in an existing irrigation room but with limited available space. For this reason, Mienis Water has redeveloped their ultrafiltration to become more compact without compromising quality or ease of maintenance. Jochum Genuit of Mienis Water: ”The first few of them have been installed, and although clients are hesitant at first, the systems are received with a lot of enthusiasm.”
Finch adds to this: “Our systems, operated worldwide in challenging environments, show that none of this is needed for most clients. The in-house designed proprietary software allows us to adapt to each water quality without the higher operational costs.”
Jochum from Mienis Water explains: “Ultrafiltration is a great disinfection technic, but how it is being operated decides how successful the system really is. Our systems are able to fully automatically clean itself, which makes it very robust.”
Ultrafiltration systems have been getting more and more popular, and rightfully so. They offer higher disinfection rates on all kinds of pathogens compared to other disinfection technics on the market. Also, maybe even more important, ultrafiltration is a membrane technic. This means that the nematodes, bacteria, and viruses are physically being removed from the water, which improves the water quality a lot and lowers the chance of new infections.
What comes out of the system is clean, disinfected water with all the nutrients still in it.

“Our ultimate goal is the most environmental and cost-friendly water treatment possible. Correct water use and drain water reuse is a hot topic, and we, as Mienis, like to play our part in that too.” Jochum concludes.
The ultrafiltration from Mienis Water can be seen on the Greentech in Amsterdam at booth 01.614. The next innovation from Mienis will be launched there as well. The focus is on less chemicals, lower operational costs, improving water quality, and supporting your growth!
