AFSA revealed that after examining 19 shipments of peppers and 34 shipments of kiwis imported by Iranian companies, quarantine pests (brown fruit wrinkling virus and mulberry scale insect) were detected, respectively.
The agency sent notifications to the Iranian National Plant Protection Organization regarding the incidents and urged it to investigate and report the results.
In addition, harmful organisms have been rediscovered in samples of peppers imported from Iran by Azerbaijani importers.
As a result of these findings, AFSA has temporarily banned the import of products from peppers and kiwi from nine Iranian and eight Azerbaijani companies since May 17.
AFSA continues to carry out phytosanitary control measures to prevent the mass spread of harmful organisms on plants and plant products. Work on public health protection is also being carried out.
