Another geothermal source receives approval in Turkey

Balikesir-Gonen (Geothermal Source Greenhouse), which stands out as the world’s largest Agricultural Specialized Organized Industrial Zone (TDIOSB) and is the 38th of the Green TDIOSBs, has been established on an 8000-decare area of previously considered not suitable for agriculture.

The project is of great importance in the Urban Agriculture application in line with its objectives of providing fresh and cheap vegetables and fruits to the consumer with the principle of on-site production and consumption and reduced waste generation.

Drawing attention with its 12-month production target, Balikesir Gonen Agricultural Specialization (Geothermal Source Greenhouse) Organized Industrial Zone will provide great added value to the regional and national economy with a total investment of 10 Billion TL and an annual production of 250,000 tons of vegetables when the project is fully operational.

In addition to geothermal energy within the TDIOSB area, there will be a solar power plant (GES) and a wind power plant (RES), and a biomass power plant that will convert all the suitable wastes that will be generated in the region into energy.
