Produce companies make Canada’s Best Managed Companies list

Several Canadian companies, including Mastronardi Produce, Red Sun Farms, Oppy, and Fresh Direct Produce have been included in the annual Canada’s Best Managed Companies list.

“The Best Managed program recognizes companies who combine strategic expertise and a culture of innovation with a steadfast commitment to their communities,” said Lorrie King, partner at Deloitte Private and co-leader for Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

Mastronardi Produce
Mastronardi Produce has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the 14th year in a row and is encouraging Canadians to pursue a lifelong career with the company in the greenhouse produce industry. “This recognition is a testament to the talented people building careers at Mastronardi Produce,” said Paul Mastronardi, President and CEO of Mastronardi Produce. “We wouldn’t be here without our employees, and we are proud to offer unique, lifelong career opportunities for people who want to grow with us. CEA is the future of food, and Mastronardi Produce will keep providing sustainable food and jobs in our communities for years to come. That’s why we hope more Canadians will be inspired to join our Flavor Revolution.”

Red Sun Farms
Red Sun Farms is proud to announce that it has been named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the eleventh year in a row and retaining Platinum Club status. “This recognition is a reflection of our commitment to spending time and energy to build and maintain good long-term business partnerships and the cultivation of a successful team,” says Carlos Visconti, Red Sun Farms CEO of US and Canada Operations. “In combination with our strong core values of accountability, collaboration, trust, and innovation, we are building an environment that makes Red Sun Farms the ideal partnership for long-lasting relationships. Our Red Sun Farms family embraces these values in all aspects of our operations. This recognition reaffirms our position as leaders in the produce industry.”

Oppy has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for the 22nd time, part of the program’s Platinum Club for 16 years. “It’s a particularly profound year to be honored for this award,” said Chair, CEO, and Managing Partner John Anderson. “As we’ve glimpsed back on 20 years of expecting the world from us, we’ve also really honed in on what lies ahead. Being a Canada’s Best Managed company through the entire life of our brand promise proves that the heart of Oppy is beating strong, and the clarity of expectations we have for ourselves and others have of us will auspiciously guide our way into the future.”

Fresh Direct
Fresh Direct Produce Ltd. (“Fresh Direct”) and its partner companies Mike & Mike’s Organics, Islands West Manufacturers, and Emperor Specialty Foods are honored to be one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies over the past decade. “We are excited to receive our 12th consecutive Best Managed Companies Award. I am very proud of how our team navigated through some very challenging opportunities this past year. I want to thank our team members, customers, vendors, and business partners for coming together to ensure a stable supply of nutritious and delicious fresh produce for Canadians despite continuing supply chain disruptions and lingering pandemic restrictions. Our teams are excited to further expand our distribution in Canada as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary in business.” says CEO David Lawrence.

“This year’s winners have demonstrated an increased focus on environmental, social, and governance themes as means to drive impactful and sustainable business outcomes. Their unwavering dedication to their core purpose, and to enhancing client relationships, cultivating a healthy culture with their employees, and serving their communities, set the standard of excellence for Canada’s business ecosystem.”
