Tomato Red egg and Red egg mini now available to order 24/7 via The Greenery Webshop

"Red 'eggs' still popular after Easter"

Want to order Red egg and Red egg mini? Even after Easter, these red-colored 'eggs' are still popular. With the start of the Dutch season, both tomato varieties are now widely available via The Greenery, both via day trade and the webshop.

"The Greenery's webshop is a platform where you know exactly at what time, what volume is available at what price. Of course, another advantage of our webshop is that, as a customer, you can order 24/7," says Jesper van Oostende (salesperson, The Greenery Growers). "The customer is then not dependent on when we as salespeople are working."

"We definitely see a good response to the online offer, and orders are now also being made in the evenings," adds Pieterjan Droogendijk (salesperson, The Greenery Growers).

Sweet taste
The flavor of the Red egg mini is a really pure tomato flavor, as you know from the old days. Sweet (brix 10), intense, spicy, and also called 'exciting' by some people. The fruit weight is around 17-19 grams. The Red egg differs from other plum tomatoes in shape, flavor, and brix value and also has a higher dry matter content. The average brix of the Red egg plum tomato is 4.5. The fruit weight is 100 to 110 grams.

Variety of packaging
For the Red egg mini, a 3 kg pack is the standard pack. However, packaging of 250, 300, and 450 grams is also possible. The Red egg plum tomato is available in a 6 kg box, 3 and 6 kg EPS, 500-gram flowpack, or 6 pieces in a full cardboard tray. The latter packaging is new. For both tomato varieties, other packaging options, including specific branding, are available on request.

Nico Duijvestijn, Tom Ammerlaan, and Leon Slaman are The Greenery's growers responsible for the Red egg and Red egg mini. From the province of South Holland, they grow these special tomatoes.

Nico Duijvestijn, The Greenery grower Red egg:

"The quality is top-notch again this season! We started growing the premium tomato Red egg because of its distinctive qualities, both in terms of taste, shape, and shelf life. Every year, we try to respond more to nature and work even more sustainably. For instance, we use geothermal heat and residual heat. And this year, we saved energy by using energy screens that insulate but allow light and moisture to pass through. I am proud when customers specifically ask for those plum tomatoes in a white box: the Red egg, in other words."

Tom Ammerlaan, The Greenery grower Red egg:

"Together with a number of other growers, we started Red egg, the tomato we developed jointly with The Greenery, about 11 years ago. We want to produce a premium product that really stands out from the crowd. And the Red egg does just that! In terms of shape, flavor, and shelf life. We started harvesting just before Easter: slightly later than last year due to the cold and especially dark start of the year. The cost price increase does now require a higher price from the market. The good demand we are already seeing from existing and new customers makes us hopeful for this season."

Leon Slaman, The Greenery grower Red egg mini:

"We have been growing the Red egg mini for The Greenery for three years now. This year, we delivered the premium tomato Red egg mini for the first time on 12 April. The quality of the plant and tomatoes looks good. We grow in a sustainable way, using Trias Westland's geothermal heat - among other measures - for several years. We notice that the demand for Red egg mini is high among customers; they are all asking for it again. The demand is probably increasing because people are now waiting a bit longer for Dutch product anyway. But, the larger volume is definitely starting to take off now."
