Sergazy Bekmurat, an agribusinessman from Shymkent

Kazakhstan: "Greenhouse growers need support from the government"

According to Sergazy Bekmurat, an agribusinessman from Shymkent in Kazakhstan, it is necessary to build more greenhouses in the country, and the state must support businesses with subsidies. In winter and summer, the people of Kazakhstan will be able to eat both greenhouse and field-grown vegetables at an affordable price, which will not see spikes depending on the season.

"Greenhouses must work all year round to be beneficial. The problem with the greenhouse business is that, in Kazakhstan, there are few industrial greenhouses built using modern technologies. In the south of the country, 80% of greenhouses are self-made greenhouses. And it was those greenhouses that suffered the most due to abnormal frosts and heavy snowfall."

"I would like growers to learn, develop, and participate in exhibitions. We want to build quality greenhouses that can withstand both snow and wind, but it's expensive. Manufacturers of greenhouses from the Netherlands, Italy, and other countries offer us their technologies. Dutch greenhouses are very efficient, with additional light, heat exchanger, control systems, and blackout systems."

In Sergazy opinion, it is necessary to build about 200 more hectares of ultra-modern greenhouses in Kazakhstan. It is expected that the final answer on the subsidizing mechanism will be by the end of spring.
