Average price vine tomato drops, loose tomato rises further in week 3

The tomato price had been on the rise since the end of last year. Last week, however, the vine tomato price at the Federation of Belgian Horticultural Cooperatives (VBT) dropped slightly. The average price went down from almost 1.80 euros per kilo to 1.40 euros.

The average price for loose tomatoes did continue to rise. Despite lower volumes, prices remain below 2022 price levels. For both vine tomatoes and loose tomatoes, prices are around the five-year average.

The median price for all lettuces dropped a bit in Week 3. This time, green oak leaf lettuce is the variety with the highest average price. In previous weeks, that was lollo rossa.

Meanwhile, the first early greenhouse greens are re-entering the market. BelOrta kicked off the cucumber season on Monday, 23 January, with the first cucumbers.
