Air bubble film to boost yields and protect greenhouses from the elements

With climate change advancing fast, growers are faced with greater challenges to keep operating as they have been used to. Multiple times, we have read reports on a hurricane or a hailstorm that severely damaged greenhouses and thus their crops. Some greenhouses, however, were spared from the fury of the elements. That is why RKW has developed the LP-Keder air bubble greenhouse film.

According to RKW, the air bubble film is a tear-resistant material that is easy to cut with a knife and scissors. The company has been active in this space for over 30 years, testing the air bubble film multiple times in particularly harsh environments and weather conditions. The system has demonstrated its superior resistance against temperature, moisture, or barometric strain.

RKW takes care to point out that the LP-Keder air bubble film allows a grower to save energy. The air bubbles are indeed engineered for thermal insulation and diffusion of sunlight. LP-Keder provides an insulating effect that retains up to 95% of heat radiation with a 1.7 R-value, resulting in energy cost-saving effects for growers.

At the same time, RKW’s solution also improves crop yields, thanks to an even light diffusion provided by the air bubble film. LP-Keder allows a substantial amount of sunlight to diffuse through more than 100 air bubbles per square foot. The diffused light scatters evenly to avoid and eliminate common difficulties of both shading and burning areas with the structure.

As sustainability bullishly makes its way to the top of growers’ priority list, RKW comes into play with a helping hand. The LP-Keder is indeed completely recyclable. The company can provide recycling centers across Europe where plastic materials are deposited, recycled, and then manufactured into different products.
