On the morning of 13/8/2022, The Netherlands-Vietnam Horticulture Business Platform had a courtesy call with the Chairman of Lai Chau province.
Attending the courtesy call from Lai Chau province were Mr. Tran Tien Dung – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, leadership representatives: Office of the Provincial People’s Committee, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Foreign Affairs Permanent representative of the Agricultural Products Association of Lai Chau province.
On the side of the Netherlands-Vietnam Horticulture Business Platform, there were Mr. Henk van Eijk – Chairman of the Association, Mr. Fokke Fracht – In charge of Finance, the Vietnamese secretaries, coordinators, representatives of members of the Association attended.

Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People’s Committee told the Association about the potential and strengths of the province such as: Lai Chau has a natural area of over 9,000 km2, of which agricultural land accounts for 58%. Lai Chau has many potentials and advantages for agricultural development with a large natural area, a forest coverage rate of nearly 51% and over 240,000 hectares of unused land. Besides, there are many climate sub-regions suitable for the development of precious medicinal plants, flowers, and fruit trees.
Besides, Lai Chau province also has its own advantages such as having the Ma Lu Thang national border gate (which will soon be an international border gate) which is convenient for industrial development and border trade. Beside, the province is implementing the project of connecting road between Lai Chau city and Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway, the project of road tunnel through Hoang Lien pass connecting Sapa town (Lao Cai province) with Tam Duong district (Lai Chau province). and is calling for investment in the airport in the form of a public-private partnership (PPP). Along with the gradually improved infrastructure, many top policies in the country support investment in agricultural development, these are the things favorable conditions for Lai Chau to exploit and develop agriculture, tourism, and the agro-processing industry.
Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Tran Tien Dung affirmed that he is ready to welcome domestic and foreign investors, including Dutch investors, to invest and do business in Lai Chau province, especially in the field of agriculture. industry with the desire to receive and transfer production and processing projects, applying advanced science and technology, building a green, clean, sustainable agriculture, increasing productivity, product value, solving jobs, raise incomes, and improve the material and spiritual life of rural people.

Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People’s Committee also introduced the potential in the mining sector of the province, which is rare earth with the largest estimated reserve in Southeast Asia (about 21 million tons) and expressed his wish that the Association With extensive experience and relationships with many Dutch and foreign investors, the Association will introduce Investors to explore investment opportunities in this field in Lai Chau province.
Mr. Henk van Eijk – Chairman of the NVHBP thanked the information shared by Chairman of Lai Chau Provincial People’s Committee. At the same time affirming, Vietnam is a friendly country, on the way of development, with many preferential policies for foreign investors. With the tradition of diplomacy and cooperation between the two countries, he expressed his desire to be willing to share experiences and cooperate with Vietnam in general and Lai Chau province in particular.
He also shared his willingness to help Lai Chau province in professional training, and technical improvement. At the same time, he wants the province to share the province’s vision and plans on agricultural development in the future for cooperation and development.
