Peroxyacetic acid a safe and effective alternative to chlorine-based hygiene programs

“As operators are trying to get away from using chlorine products, we have a patented method of creating peroxyacetic acid on-site without producing the peroxide by-product. We can do this at any pH and any strength,” says Eric Smith, National Sales Manager of the Horticulture Division at BioSafe Systems, LLC.

As Eric explains, OxyFusion allows operators to generate peroxyacetic acid on-site for water treatments in nurseries, greenhouses, and other CEA applications. The system is well suited to the production of leafy greens, ornamentals, and cannabis. While OxyFusion has been on the market for a few years, BioSafe Systems has continuously worked on its design to improve efficiencies and reduce the system’s footprint.

“We have wildly improved OxyFusion’s efficiency to treat for Fusarium, Pythium, E. coli, and other pathogens as effectively as possible. As it targets pathogens that can impact both human and plant health, this is the kind of systems that operators will need to use,” explains Eric.

OxyFusion ideal for roots
Peroxyacetic acid (PAA) works through oxidation but is less volatile than the alternatives, which allows the molecules to travel further and treat pathogens throughout the system. Also, PAA is ideal for roots which makes it quintessential in recirculating systems for treating leachate before its return to the greenhouse.

A key feature of OxyFusion is the ability to create solutions of different strengths. The operator can easily increase the PAA concentration to clean hard surfaces or dial it down for addition into the irrigation water. Also, the system comes with smart connectivity for data monitoring and reporting which will come in handy for traceability requirements.

TerraGrow Liquid, new formulation with added foliar application
Also on display at Cultivate will be BioSafe Systems’ new formulation of TerraGrow. The new formulation contains the same five strains of Bacillus as the flagship product but has a different carrier formulation. These new ingredients allow TerraGrow Liquid to be applied as a foliar spray and a drench, whereas the first formulation can only be applied as a drench. The new formulation will not replace the earlier formulation outright but will simply add another member to the TerraGrow product line.

“These ingredients have been shown to increase plant vigor and yield for a number of crops. We essentially created a new fertilizer with a new label, but now one that allows for foliar sprays which opens up new opportunities,” explains Eric.

Eric explains further that BioSafe Systems is always looking to bring new chemistries to the market that meet the company’s guidelines for social, economic, and environmental sustainability.

BioSafe Systems will be at its usual booth location at Cultivate, #3653, and will also be hosting their Cultivate party in partnership with Dosatron and JR Peters Inc. The party will be held Monday night, so growers are encouraged to visit the party hosts’ booths to receive their entry wristbands.

BioSafe Systems will be attending Cultivate in Columbus, Ohio from July 16 to 19 and is looking forward to having its OxyFusion system on display at its booth, #3653.
