Haoyu Group: How to maximize the use of semi-enclosed greenhouses is a major challenge

Founded in April 2001, Haoyu Group is headquartered in the Economic Development Zone of Juxian County, Shandong Province. It is a cross-regional diversified large-scale private enterprise group integrating CHP, modern agriculture, coal chemical industry, logistics, and metallurgy. Recently, HortidailyChina interviewed Mr. Zhao, assistant general manager of Haoyu Group, to learn more about the company.

"Haoyu Group has been involved in modern agriculture since October 2017 and officially started business operations in June 2018. There are various types of cultivation facilities in the park, including 17 hectares of glass greenhouses, 24 hectares of multi-span solar greenhouses, 37 solar greenhouses, and single-film or double-film greenhouses. Various vegetables, solanaceous fruits, and flowers are planted in the park. The first Venlo greenhouse was designed by Flexibell, covering an area of 9 hectares (including service area); the latest greenhouse No. 2, covering an area of 8 hectares, was designed by Kubo and is a semi-enclosed intelligent multi-span glass greenhouse. The greenhouse was built by Kingpeng Technology, and it is all used to cultivate cherry tomatoes, which can achieve an annual output of more than 2,400 tons of cherry tomatoes."

"The summer temperature in Shandong is very high, and it has been very hot since May. Our previous greenhouses were unable to produce under the high temperature and high humidity conditions in summer. Therefore, we consider semi-enclosed greenhouses to achieve over-summer and stable production throughout the year. This should be the first semi-enclosed greenhouse in inland China, and there is no case to learn from. China has a vast territory, and the climate of each place is different, so all experiences cannot be just 'copy and paste.' I visited many greenhouses in China to learn semi-enclosed greenhouse management, such as Shanghai Youyou Agriculture and Foodventures, and continue to learn. At present, how to make full use of semi-enclosed greenhouses to achieve more efficient production is a major challenge we are facing.

"We currently plant two main tomato varieties, and there are more than 20 test varieties. We are planting varieties from Gautier, Seminis, Syngenta, Rijk Zwaan. The first season yield is about 21kg/m2. At present, the market has a high acceptance of round fruits on the vine, mainly red, followed by yellow, and the market awareness of green small fruits is still improving. "

"At present, our tomatoes are sold both online and offline, mainly online. We have our own brand, 'Tomato's Home.' We have opened an applet on WeChat and will soon launch our own e-commerce business in cooperation with the Youzan platform. In addition, we also have online stores on JD.com and Tmall."

"Rising energy costs are a challenge facing all companies at present. Relatively speaking, we have some advantages. Thanks to the group's CHP projects, we can effectively use waste heat and reduce greenhouse production costs," Zhao added.
