Dispensing with fossil fuels and using geothermal heat: Styrian family business Frutura is a pioneer in climate-friendly agriculture and supplies regional fruit and vegetables to some 3 million Austrians daily, even in winter and spring. This increases the country's self-sufficiency while reducing dependence on imported goods. One of the "stars" of sustainable production is the Blumauer tomato, which, together with the Blumauer pointed bell pepper, is now available at Spar supermarkets throughout Austria, the Kronen Zeitung reports.

"We have proven in recent years that with the courage to change and honesty, climate-friendly and economically successful production of fruits and vegetables in Austria is possible," says Frutura CEO Manfred Hohensinner. His daughter Katrin adds: "We will consistently continue on the path of careful handling of natural resources. Achieving a balanced CO2 footprint within the entire company was another milestone for us. Doing business in harmony with nature remains the benchmark for our actions, which is why we remain open to visionary ideas when it comes to living sustainability."
