The company Due Erre, based in Padua at the Maap wholesale
market, used to export to Ukraine, but now everything is blocked because of the war. "I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people and not because of the impact on our business. The war in Ukraine is a huge tragedy, bringing with it all possible consequences. We used to export a certain number of products there, including top-of-the-range products. And now our importers have informed us that the country is financially blocked, so even if they wished to, they could not import anything,” said the co-owner Romeo Zanotto.
Maap also offered to serve as a hub to arrange the shipment of humanitarian aid, both for logistics platforms and a few offices from which to set up the workflow.
"Our work in Eastern Europe continues without major problems. For example, we continue to export to Moldova and Poland. Transport costs have increased; each day there are new increases, but this is understandable given the rise in fuel prices. However, if we want to be totally honest, we should point out that transport is not the most worrying item, in terms of increased costs. Twenty euros more per pallet means about 2 cents per kg. What weighs the most is packaging, with twice the costs affecting each kg".

"In addition, while the cost of energy doesn't have too many consequences for cell refrigeration at the moment, given the temperatures that have been wintry up to now, I dread to think how much the costs will rise in the next few months, when we'll have to keep temperatures low as opposed to 35 or 40°C outside," concluded Zanotto.
