JASA Packaging opens second North America office

"US shows a strong demand for flexible and innovative packaging lines for greenhouse-grown produce"

In response to fast-growing demand and a desire to be located close to customers’ facilities, JASA Packaging has expanded with a second office in North America. The family-owned company was established in the Netherlands 37 years ago and branched overseas in 2018. “We opened a US office on the East Coast to bring our European knowledge and expertise to North America,” says Joost Somford with the company. Just last month, the company opened its second office, located in Delta, British Columbia.

Since entering the North American market four years ago, JASA has mainly specialized in developing packaging lines for the indoor leafy greens and tomato segments. “The expansion of the greenhouse industry continues at a rapid pace and as a result, we’ve seen demand for our packaging lines increase at a similar speed, far above our expectations,” said Somford. From day one of opening its US location, the company noticed a strong demand for flexible and innovative packaging lines for greenhouse-grown produce, from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Joost Somford and Sandra Somford-Pannekeet recently opened JASA's second office in North America.

To better serve its clients across North America, JASA chose a West Coast location for its second office. “We’ve chosen the Delta, BC region because of its rich greenhouse industry,” Somford shared. In the direct vicinity, there’s a wealth of tomato and pepper greenhouse facilities, but also a rich blueberry and strawberry industry. Within the leafy greens segment, the company already works with the largest leafy greens growers in California. “With our new Delta, BC location, we will not only be able to serve clients in British Columbia, but also serve our California customers better. In addition, North America has a booming greenhouse industry in Ontario and we’re able to serve these customers from either office,” he commented.

JASA Packaging develops entire packaging lines, from beginning to end. “We are responsible for the design, but also develop the equipment, ensure it is compatible, and we integrate the systems.” It is the company’s goal to deliver a line that is efficient from an automation point of view but also produces innovative packaging solutions. Since opening its Canadian office on February 1, the company has already noticed an increase in requests from customers in Canada as well as the US West Coast.
