Germany: New greenhouse facility for organic vegetables

Recently, at Ackerlei Bioland Betrieb in Bruchköbel in Germany, VDH Foliekassen from the Netherlands build an F-Clean covered foil greenhouse of 8,000 m² for growing organic vegetables.

Performance
It concerns a 12.80 m wide span, supplied by VDH and built entirely in accordance with local building regulations. The double-sided continuous ridge ventilation guarantees a very large ventilation capacity of 40% and the greenhouse is equipped with F-Clean, an ETFE foil with a very high light transmission and a long lifespan.

Maximum light transmittance
The greenhouse is fitted with F-Clean film, a thin ETFE film (fluoropolymer) especially developed for horticultural greenhouses. The foil lets through more light than glass, PE foil, polycarbonate, and PMMA sheets and lasts twenty years without any problems, if properly stretched and properly processed. F-Clean has a light transparency of up to 94 percent, 4 to 5 percent more than with glass or other PE films for greenhouses.

UV light
F-Clean allows the entire spectrum of UV light to pass through, which has a positive effect on the quality of the vegetables. The presence of UV light makes the plant less susceptible to diseases. A grower who also grows outdoors has the guarantee that F-Clean can provide the conditions for an outdoor climate. The compactness and strength of the plants is comparable to that of outdoors. In addition, F-Clean has anti-drip and self-cleaning properties, has high reflection and refraction percentages and sunlight has virtually no degrading effect on the film itself.

Savings
The greenhouse has been developed in line with the client's vision, which combines the organic cultivation of vegetables with the least possible impact on the environment. That is why the greenhouse is equipped with a screen installation with energy-saving fabric, double foil facades and pipe rail heating for optimum energy savings. Due to the integrated application of these systems, the client saves approximately 40% in energy.

Ackerlei Biolandbetrieb
Ackerlei is an organic vegetable farm with 40 hectares of cultivation area. A family business with production locations in Bruchköbel-Oberissigheim and Seligenstadt. Vegetables are grown on the organic farm according to the principles of organic farming. The high-quality organic food is marketed in farm shops, markets and via a delivery service in large parts of the Rhine-Main area. The arable land is currently growing potatoes, asparagus, pumpkins, strawberries and about 40 other types of vegetables and salads. In addition, various fruit vegetables, herbs, early leaf lettuce and winter lettuce are grown in several foil greenhouses.
