The production of greenhouse vegetables in Russia is steadily growing. At the beginning of 2022, their gross harvest amounted to 105.5 thousand tons, which is 2.6% more than in the same period of 2021., including cucumbers collected 62.2 thousand tons (plus 1.5%), tomatoes – 41.2 thousand tons (plus 4.3%). According to the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, the leaders in the production of greenhouse vegetables are the Moscow, Lipetsk, Kaluga, Volgograd, Belgorod, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol Territories, the Republic of Mordovia and Tatarstan.
The construction of modern greenhouses in the European part of Russia is almost completed, several major projects will be completed by 2024. In the Far Eastern Federal District, the construction of greenhouse complexes will continue, but small in area, to provide fresh vegetables to the local population. Further ways of development of the greenhouse industry are the growth of the production and commercial efficiency of greenhouses.
Therefore, the increase in the gross harvest of vegetables in the protected ground will decrease. Perhaps some enterprises will switch to growing niche crops such as pepper, and eggplants.
