This year, Witkamp began growing mini cucumbers on about five hectares in the Netherlands. "We pack them in our exclusive Jackpot 9kg boxes with their blossoms still attached. Leaving the flower on shows customers that it's always a fresh product. We can deliver them in black boxes if that's what our clients want," says Morris Witkamp.
"We started with a few pallets last week, and demand is excellent. Prices are currently favorable, with a selling price of between €3,50 and €3,75/kg. These prices are mainly due to the inadequate supply of good quality Spanish product."
"We need a bit of warm, sunny weather; then there'll quickly be more product and more realistic selling prices. But we certainly can't complain about beginning the season with these sales prices," says Morris.
"Jackpot has been known in the trade for some time as Witkamp's premium TOV brand. We've added our mini cucumber to this."
We can now supply our buyers with these. We sell most of these to customers in the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Scandinavia," Morris concludes.
