In 2021, Russian farmers renewed their record for fruit and berry production. According to preliminary data from Rosstat, the gross output of all farms categories amounted to 3.9 million tonnes, 7% higher than in 2020.
The increase in production is primarily driven by the high rate of establishment of modern intensive orchards and nurseries. The main types of fruit and berries grown in the country are apples, plums, cherries, sweet cherries, apricots, currants, raspberries, and strawberries. The production of blueberries is actively developing as well.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia provides support to this crop production area. This includes subsidies, preferential investment and short-term lending, compensation for direct costs incurred for the creation and modernisation of agricultural facilities, and grants.
