The value of Almeria's pepper and tomato exports increased by 9%

Pepper and tomato exports between the months of September and November have experienced a 9% increase in value, according to the statistics of the Junta's Prices and Markets Observatory.

This increase was achieved despite a drop in the volumes sold to international markets in the first three months of last season. Almeria sold 143 million kilos of peppers to the EU, i.e. 4% less than a year ago, but revenues reached 183 million euro, 9% more than in the previous year, thanks to an improvement in the average unit value, which stood at €1.28/kg.

The volume of tomato exports in this period was 5% lower than in the same period of the previous year, as Almeria exported less than 80 million kilos of tomatoes to the EU. However, revenues increased by 9% and totaled 130 million euro because the average prices have gone from € 1.43/kg last season to € 1.63/kg this season.

With respect to the rest of the vegetables, cucumber exports have fallen by 11% in volume to 169 million kilos. It was only because prices increased by 5% that revenues stood at 164 million euro, a similar level to the one achieved in the previous campaign.

Courgette exports increased by 4% until November, but its value decreased by 12%, and aubergine exports decreased by 7% in volume between September and November 2021 by 5% in value when compared to the same months of the last campaign.
