Packaging station to meet various demands from clients

Paris Herbes, a wholesaler specialized in aromatic herbs on the Rungis market, is one of the companies that has experienced the nicest trajectories in France from 2016 to 2019, with an average growth of 85% per year. Paris Herbes has been able to stand out thanks to partnerships and the development of an import partnership with Poland, Morocco, and Spain. The company now offers about 20 products, from avocados to pomegranates, apples, salads, and, of course, its flagship products: aromatic herbs like mint, cilantro, and flat-leaf parsley, trendy products that are increasingly popular among chefs.

Thanks to its partnerships with French producers who give the company exclusivity on certain products, Paris Herbes focuses on the French market in the summer and then turns to Spain and Morocco. “For products that are more complicated to work with, such as basil, chives, or marjoram, we also get our supply from Israel, Kenya, or Tanzania,” explains Tara Mrhari.

Weather hazards and soaring costs
“We’ve never seen anything like it! The weather was very bad this year. There were many shortages for several products, so that's also why we chose to diversify our sourcing, in order to have products all year round.”

With the soaring costs of energy and raw materials, the company has chosen not to adjust the price of its products yet. “Wood, cardboard, everything is going up: the price of packaging has tripled! Our supplier from Morocco had not increased his prices for nearly 5 years, but now he was forced to do it.”

In Rungis, Paris Herbes has its own packaging station, which allows the company to meet the various demands of its clients. “We repack so that our clients can sell for at least a week on the shelves; herbs are very fragile. For example, we use resealable trays for supermarkets, bulk packages of 1 kg for restaurants, and bags for other retailers.”

Paris Herbes will be present at Fruit Logistica in Berlin next year.
