ETP® transparent paper film for trays, flowpack and pouches

A transparent film made from paper pulp is the solution developed by FDR Packaging, a French manufacturer of custom packaging for 40 years. Located in the Hauts-de-France region, the company has five manufacturing sites in various sectors such as the food industry, as well as the catering and pharmaceutical industries.

The growing trend towards plastic-free packaging (more demanding consumers and increasingly restrictive legislation such as the Agec law from January 1st 2022) has led FDR Packaging to develop packaging solutions over time, without plastic and especially for fruit and vegetables. These include cardboard trays and in recent years, the ETP® paper film, certified Ok Home compost and heat-sealable, to be used in pouches, flowpack or windows.

“Fifteen years ago, we asked ourselves how to replace plastic, especially the plastic used for windows and coating on cardboard trays. So we started with the same material, paper pulp, to make a transparent paper film. Six years ago, with the change of perspective, we started using the film for other applications like flowpack and pouches,” explains François-Xavier Franssen.

“For some professionals, the cardboard trays with openings are sufficient, but for others, especially those who want more visibility, the transparent paper film seems more suitable and allows for a better protection of the more fragile products. We propose them when necessary, in order to have a transparent window or a lamination of the cardboard for the wet products. We also offer flowpack for some vegetables like carrots for example.”

FDR Packaging continues to develop new solutions in order to meet the growing demand related to the new regulations and more eco-responsible consumer expectations.
