Belgium: new lit cucumber season well underway

Due to the Belgian demand for locally-grown, high-quality products, BelOrta is counting on lit cucumber cultivation for the fourth consecutive winter. By now, that cultivation is well underway.

At BelOrta, the lit cucumber season starts in early November and runs until late February. Thus, it is finished at the exact time when the traditional cultivation starts, meaning the cooperative can offer good quality cucumbers year-round.

"This year's lit cucumber season began better than in recent years, partly thanks to Southern Europe's decreased volumes," says Bruno Vuerinckx, BelOrta's Sales Supervisor.

The cooperative's lit cultivation focuses on 350g and 400g cucumbers, most of which are auctioned off. Besides cucumbers sealed in plastic, they also offer them in paper bands.
