Big guns brought out to install roof cleaners on US greenhouse with 'obstacles'

Last week, Van der Waay's team installed two Top Cleaner roof cleaners. That was at Bayer in Marana, Arizona, in the US. The greenhouse is used for corn seed production. The 2.8-hectare greenhouse has several features, which allows for farming in Arizona's extreme climate. These include climate boxes in the greenhouse walls., and an outer screen on the greenhouse roof.

These 'obstacles' necessitated a customized machine. "We placed a special platform on both end walls. It moves the deck cleaner from roof to roof. You control the Top Cleaners via a climate computer," explains Tom Zwabenburg of Van der Waay, which is based in the Netherlands.

These greenhouse roof cleaners are entirely custom-built, and they fit in between the outer screen's steel construction. A spray boom has also been placed on them, which sprays a coating on the glass.

Tom: "Heavy equipment was needed to install the machines safely."
