Belgian politicians return to the greenhouses

"Horticulture remains a fascinating sector that is always on the move"

This summer, Belgian politicians are again going on a work placement in agriculture and horticulture. This is an initiative of the Boerenbond (Farmers' Union).

With the summer internships, which were also held in previous years (before COVID-19), the Farmers' Union wants to build bridges between politics and companies in the sector. Sonja De Becker, president of the Boerenbond, is already enthusiastic about the 'massive response' that follows the invitation to the internships.

"Every year, we notice a great interest in the political summer internships: both on the part of the political invitees and on the part of the farmers and horticulturalists themselves. Several members of parliament take part almost every year. No wonder, since agriculture and horticulture remains a fascinating sector that moves, develops and constantly looks for new answers to questions and trends from the market and from society. An internship at one of the companies offers unique insights and experiences that can enrich the daily work of the participating politicians," says the Boerenbond chairman.
