Belgium: Tomato Masters starts new expansion this year

Tomato grower Tomato Masters will have a new greenhouse constructed in Deinze in November. The growers will add 5 hectares, bringing the total to 21 hectares, divided over 4 greenhouses.

With this new expansion step, the Vlaemynck grower family is completely filling in an acreage of 32 hectares acquired in 2011. A previous expansion step was taken in 2018 with the construction of 5.7 hectares at the time.

Ambition to grow
On the Facebook page of the growers, you can read that with this recent step, grower Tom will see his dream come true. Asked about it, Tom responded, laughing: "Haha, I didn't write that myself, my team put it nicely. But it's true, with the purchase of the land back then, the ambition was definitely to grow. When you buy land, you don't just leave it empty, of course. Especially since it is not so easy in Belgium these days to find land to expand your acreage."

First cultivation autumn 2022
The growers, who also have a greenhouse in Poesele, want to do a short cultivation in the new greenhouse in the autumn of 2022, and then start a full cultivation in January 2023. The grower will not (yet) be using lighting in the new greenhouse. Tom: "In 2018, we invested in LED lighting. We will be able to take another step like this in 2024 at the earliest."
