Tomatoes and peppers top sellers among Hungarian vegetables

Tomatoes and peppers are at the top of the Hungarian vegetable consumption list, having respective shares of 9% and 12%. Also, according to the Southern Horticultural Cooperatives (DélKerTÉSZ) of Szentes, consumption of vegetables and fruits per capita has increased over a decade.

Although vegetable production is affected by the weather, DélKerTÉSZ already has a solution to minimize the resulting risk, according to their communication. In 2010, on average, less than 38 kg of fruit were consumed per capita, but in 2019, consumption exceeded 53 kg. Total vegetable consumption, excluding potatoes, also increased. In 2010, this amounted to 48 kg, while nine years later it rose to 53 kg per person.
