Irish salad leaf and herb grower launches rebrand

“We wanted to emphasise the fact that the product is grown locally with the shortest possible route from farm to fork”

At the end of July, McCormack Family Farms launched a new brand for their range of unwashed salad leaves and herbs. The family, who have been growing produce in Ireland for nearly forty years, supply major retailers and foodservice throughout Ireland with Irish grown product.

“We wanted to emphasise the fact that the product is grown locally and sustainably with the shortest possible route from farm to fork,” explains Managing Director Stephen McCormack. “We have a very distinct white packaging which stands out from the other packs on the shelf. We put the country of origin on the pack, we want people to see that we grow in Ireland and only import sustainably grown produce out of season.”

McCormack packs the salad leaves and herbs unwashed as this gives the product extra shelf life and because they focus on the health benefits this means there are no chlorine washes used.

“A few years ago, unwashed salad leaves only had around 10% of the market share, now they have 20%. People do like convenience, but unwashed product stays fresh for longer and just needs a rinse under the tap.

“Our leaves are packed in punnets and bags which are both recyclable. The punnets give the product much more protection and we feel like the tray identifies us as we are the only ones who use them. The trays are made from plastic recycled in Ireland and can be recycled again after use.”

According to Stephen there has been a very good response to the new packaging which has been introduced across the range.
