After an intensive development process, Remmert Dekker Packaging, in collaboration with its customer Nature's Pride, has successfully launched a cardboard strawberry punnet, in which the moisture resistance of plastic laminate has been replaced by a water-based lacquer. A major step forward in the pursuit of sustainable packaging. Nature's Pride is the first to use it in the Netherlands and abroad.
Remmert Dekker Packaging: “Previously, we were forced to provide two-sided printed cardboard with plastic laminate as a functional moisture barrier out of necessity. However, this leads to a composite packaging material, which must be recycled separately. With the new innovative water-repellent lacquer, the consumer can place the packaging in the waste paper bin after use. Durable and future-proof. Our customer Nature's Pride has been an important partner in this project. Nature's Pride has ambitious sustainability goals, which is in line with Remmert Dekker Packaging's mission. ”
Remmert Dekker Packaging emphasises the novelty of the solution. “We have exclusive agreements with our suppliers. The paint has been extensively tested and meets all food safety requirements. The new lacquer is more widely applicable than just for strawberries, such as for other soft fruits and vegetables that require moisture-resistant packaging.
The plastic-free Eat Me strawberry tray from Nature's Pride is now available in the supermarket.
