Romania asks the EU for increase in coupled support to protected agriculture

The Romanian Ministry of Agriculture has asked the European Commission for an increase of approximately 50%, up to 5,000 Euro per hectare, in the amount of coupled support for vegetables in protected agriculture, said Minister Adrian Oroș.

According to him, last summer, when the documentation for the approval of agricultural subsidies was submitted in Brussels, an error was made, and for vegetables in protected areas, the amounts requested were approximately 35% lower than in 2018. "In the letter addressed to the European Commission, we mentioned a number of problems that agricultural producers are facing," said Oroș.

According to the data of OIEPA Legume Fructe, the association of vegetable and fruit producers, the coupled support notified for greenhouse vegetable crops for the period 2014-2020 was 6,200 Euro / ha, while the value for 2019 proposed by an HG project is approximately 2,300 Euro / ha, which represents an unjustified 70% decrease. The producers had made their budget with the 7,600 Euro / ha in mind, as in 2017 and 2018.

Regarding the payment period of the subsidies, Minister Oroș said that "I asked the European Commission for permission to pay the advances earlier, starting in September 15th. In 2019, the advance, which was generally 70% of the total amount of the subsidy, was paid to producers from October 15.
