Project fulfillment is planned for the end of the current year

Russian grower plans third greenhouse of 7 hectares

“We are constructing the third greenhouse Obskoy. The foundation has been finished, and the project is planned to be launched at the end of October 2020. It will be the last greenhouse project that GC Gorkunov will open in the Novosibirsk region”, announced the general director of GC Tolmachevsky (part of GC Gorkunov), Mr. Andrei Sedunov.

The acreage of the greenhouse will comprise about 7 ha. Of those, 1.6 ha will be allocated to growing lettuce. The production will be transferred from the GC Tolmachevsky. About 4 ha will be occupied with cucumbers. The overall amount of investments in the project should comprise 18.6 million euros. It is planned to create 170 new working places.

Currently GC Tolmachevsky produces about 80 tons of vegetables in 24 hours, the neighboring GC Novosibirsy (part of GC Gorkunov), produces about 50 tons. The planned capacity for the GC Obskoy should amount to 20 tons of cucumbers and 22 thousand pieces of lettuce of different varieties per day.

“In all, in 2019 GC Tolmachevsky harvested 22.6 thousand tons of vegetables and GC Novosibirsy gathered 16 thousand tons”, mentioned the director of the complex. “Moreover, we are developing a project of a stand-alone business unit by GC Tolmachevsky in Barnaul.

"GC Gorkunov rented GC Industrialny in the summer of 2019. The group invested 4.3 million euros in obtaining loan liabilities, 2 million euros in lighting system reconstruction, constructing of storage facilities and a boiler house. There we have 10 ha of production facilities”.

In 2020, the launch of a flower growing project is planned in Novosibirsk. According to Mr. Andrei Sedunov, GC Tolmachevsky are planning to reconstruct 2 ha of production acreage. The amount of investments should amount to 2.15-2.44 million euros.

“It takes a while to fulfil this project. Two years ago, the government stopped the program supporting the greenhouse business; flower growing is not subsidized in Russia. As a result, we had to amend our plans”, explained Mr. Sedunov. “We are planning to plant roses in the premises at the end of the current year and by March 2021 they should be ready for sale”.

GC Gorkunov are developing a similar project in Yaroslavl. The greenhouse growing potted Kordana roses grows on an acreage of 3 ha. According to Mr. Andrey Sedunov, all the contracts with the wholesale purchasers have been signed for months ahead.

As the Minister of Agriculture of Novosibirsk region, Mr. Evgeniy Leschenko, has noted, the dwellers of the region require about 350 thousand tons of vegetables per year. Local growers produce about 150 thousand tons (44% of the demand).

“According to the results of 2019, growers have produced 29 thousand tons of field vegetables and 43 thousand tons of greenhouse ones (66% of which are cucumbers and 31% are tomatoes). In the greenhouse vegetables line we have completely met the demand, which is calculated at the level of 15 kilos of vegetables per person per year”, announce the Minister. “With that, we have approached a line, after which it is unreasonable to open new greenhouse complexes. The greenhouse complexes presented in the market do not need to compete with each other. Currently we are considering not only the local market but also the neighboring Siberian regions.

In all, in the Novosibirsk region, 45 ha is occupied for the greenhouse vegetable growing. The following companies operate in this sphere in the region: GK Emelyanovskiy (specialized in greenery), GC Gorkunov and GC Sady Giganta (by GC Sibirsky Gigant, 11 ha, specializes in tomatoes).
