Solidarity drives the reconstruction of greenhouses in Almeria

This weekend, people have worked hard in the field, but not to sow or to harvest. On Saturday and Sunday, many volunteers from different places went to Campohermoso and Níjar to start rebuilding the greenhouses damaged by storm Gloria.

A number of officials have visited the area and some have expressed surprise at the lack of concern on the part of the current Government. “It is surprising that the Sánchez Government has not shown even the slightest concern about what has happened here. He has not even shown up this time. Also, we are wondering what the Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, has to say of all this. You cannot turn your back on such a serious matter,” said Ciudadanos MP Mercedes López.

For its part, last Friday, the Union of Independent Agricultural Producers (UAI) made a call on social media, asking for volunteer producers to come over the weekend to the area of collapsed greenhouses in Campohermoso, Almería.

“The people of Níjar and Campohermoso need our help now more than ever. We must offer them support, collaboration and unity,” said UAI president Joaquín López, alias Bernabé. “We have to be more human and look after our neighbors. After all, if the neighbor thrives, we will prosper with them.”

The president of UAI has thanked all the volunteers that have come from Motril, Costa Tropical, Poniente Almeriense and Levante, and in particular the UAI coordinator David Pérez.

"We want to thank all the people from Motril, the Costa Tropical, Poniente Almeriense and Levante for helping us this weekend. We hope that this popular support will continue this next weekend, as our neighbors in Níjar and Campohermoso need it."
