Greenhouse acreage in Volgograd has increased 2.5 times. This year a full-scale investment project has been carried forward in Volzsk, LLC Ovoschevod with the help of state support have completed the construction of a 27 ha contemporary greenhouse complex. It is the biggest amount of greenhouse acreage launched recently. The new facilities would allow for 20 thousand tons of tomato crops per year.
Earlier in 2014-2017, the company launched another 20 ha of greenhouses also with the help of state support. Currently, the whole complex occupies 64 ha and the production capacity has increased to 50 thousand tons.
For the time being, greenhouses occupy almost 115 ha in Volgograd region, while just 5 year ago the acreage amounted to 48 ha only. Such results are due to the systematic approach in the vegetable growing sphere.
“We are carrying over one of the tasks set by the governor, Mr. Andrey Bocharov in the first session of the Council on the Agricultural complex, when the priority tasks were determined”, noted the Vice governor, the head of the Agricultural Committee, Mr. Vasiliy Ivanov. “Volgograd area has reconfirm the status of the Russian orchard with the overall crops exceeding 1 million tons. As of today, we deliver produce almost to all corners of the country”.
There are four major companies producing vegetables in the region, LLC Ovoschevod, ACC Teplichnyj, SUE VRAE Zarya, LLC Agricultural Complex Volzhsky. As of the beginning of December, they have collected almost 44 thousand tons of produce. It is forecasted that the overall production in 2019 would exceed 65 thousand tons. Next year the productivity should enhance due to the new projects.
Greenhouses development will continue. LLC Ovoschevod are planning to begin the construction of a similar greenhouse complex in 2020.
