How does one combine recyclability, water resistance and robustness in one packaging solution without losing sight of the benefits of the direct marketer? Packaging developer ASEO has addressed this question: at the ExpoSE 2019, the company will present the two latest solutions from the diversified product catalog. These are two recyclable and compostable solutions made of treated, sustainable paper, explains managing director Petra Wolf.
Petra Wolf (l) and Kerstin Baumert at the booth of ASEO GmbH during this year's InterAspa.
Back to the roots
With the water-resistant wrapping paper you want to "go back to the roots," says Ms. Wolf. "We believe that today's customer, who goes to regional providers, is specifically looking for the traditional. This means that the fresh produce - whether asparagus or berries - is packed in the eyes of the customer, which is why the article itself gets a higher value. Thus, the solution should offer both the provider and the customer an interesting added value."
In addition to the wrapping paper, the waterproof paper bags are the second packaging novelty from ASEO. This solution was developed in the course of the social packaging discussion and placed on the market for the first time last year. "Thin plastic bags are still in circulation, but the customer is increasingly rejecting them, especially in direct marketing," observes Ms. Wolf.
Go new ways
Although both solutions are very well suited as advertising media because of the three-color printing, the sustainable process itself is the best possible advertisement for the direct marketer that exists, she adds. "By using these solutions, the provider shows the customer that they are breaking new ground and are looking to the environment. This in itself is a sign that you are thinking along the lines of time. "On the occasion of the sustainability discussion around Greta Thunberg, there is currently a "boom" in packaging innovations, especially in the food sector. The product range of ASEO LLC contains - apart from the current highlights - solutions made of grass paper and corn starch as well.
International marketing potential
During this year's asparagus and berry campaign and in the run-up to the InterAspa, where the two solutions were officially presented, the packaging was already used successfully. The feedback was 100% positive and clearly, there is a marketing potential beyond the borders. "In Germany, we supply both the little clients and the larger companies. In France, too, there is a need for new, sustainable alternatives and, if possible, people want to go without plastic."
