German international supermarket chain welcomed to Global G.A.P. community

New Global G.A.P. member Kaufland is a German supermarket chain with international locations in Europe. Kaufland is part of the Schwarz Group which is the largest retailer in Europe and the fourth largest retailer in the world after Walmart, Amazon and Costco.

Global G.A.P. CEO Kristian Moeller announced the addition of Kaufland, a German supermarket chain with international locations in Europe, to the growing list of Global G.A.P. members. “Supermarkets and distributors who are members of Global G.A.P. are committed not only to safeguarding the health of their customers but also to promoting sustainable production in the agriculture, livestock, and aquaculture sector the world over,” he said.

"Kaufland takes responsibility for people and the environment. The company forms its product range sustainably and promotes responsible production conditions " says Stefan Lukes, Head of Purchasing Fruits and Vegetables, Kaufland. "Through this membership, we can actively contribute to the development of the future and also help shaping the global change in fruits and vegetables as well as flowers and plants."

Kaufland is especially known for its fresh and wholesome foods. The store carries a wide variety of brands but also sells their own Kaufland-branded products. Conscientious shoppers can choose from fair trade, vegetarian or vegan, certified organic, GMO-free, Rainforest Alliance, and similarly certified foods. Grocery offerings include fresh produce, prepared foods to go, baked goods, dairy products, full and self-service meat sections, and frozen foods.
