Full and innovative baby leaf range supplied by the Italian Maraldi

Maraldi Sementi, an Italian company devoted to the genetic improvement, production and sale of vegetable seeds for the professional baby leaf and onion market, is launching its new range of baby leaf varieties.

Lettuce: many varieties, a unique resistance
The company is proud to confirm that its lettuce varieties for baby leaf production are resistant to the new variety of bremia lactucae Bl: 36EU, and it is suggesting the following varieties with resistance Bl: 16-36EU.

ATHENS is a green lettuce with excellent thickness and shelf life, erect bearing and medium early cycle which is resistant to Nasonovia ribisnigri (Nr: o). The erect bearing and narrow petiole make it possible to obtain a homogeneous production with high quality standards.

AFRODITE is a dark green lettuce, slower than the Athens, ideal for summer, with a unique post-harvest thickness and quality.

MINERVA is a white lettuce with a very erect bearing and a narrow and high petiole. Thus guarantees homogeneity and quality when cut.

ELETTRA is an innovative variety that combines the thickness and texture of Iceberg lettuce with the plasticity and processability of Batavia lettuce. It has a finely serrated edge and an erect bearing, with limited oxidation of the petiole.

AURORA has a very voluminous and three-dimensional leaf. It is characterized by its high performance and an early cycle for production in the cold periods.

OXANA is the darkest red lettuce, even in high temperature conditions, and with a good leaf thickness. Thanks to the peculiarities of the leaf, it lends itself well to second cuts.

FRECCIAROSSA has an exceptional thickness, high vigor, erect bearing with a narrow leaf, and is suitable for production in the colder periods.

Oxana and Frecciarossa

For the next 2020/21 production campaign, the range will be expanded considerably with the introduction of varieties with Bl: resistance 16-36 for all segments, including Iceberg, Oak leaf, Roman and Tango, all in different color combinations and precocity cycles.

Pioneers in arugula
Maraldi Sementi launched the arugula research and development program more than a decade ago, introducing the first varieties with resistance to fusariosis. Now research is also focusing on the resistance to mildew and the improvement of the quality of the leaf, both for the sake of attractiveness and post-harvest shelf life.

The new hybrid varieties have attracted great interest throughout the world because of the innovative characteristics that make them stand out, such as the leaf conformation, productivity and low susceptibility to blight.

SELE F1 guarantees high yields, has a very irregular voluminous leaf with a unique consistency, a high level of maturity and excellent results in the field due to its resistance to mildew.

RUBICON F1 has a very dark and jagged leaf. Its vigor and high yields make this arugula a unique product.

JUNO has a very erect bearing, a high petiole and dark green leaves; a medium early cycle with low susceptibility to mildew and excellent in the post-harvest.

REWIND is a variety with strong resistance to fusariosis. It is rustic and vigorous and suitable for year-round production.

Baby leaf chard, quality and productivity
VENUS F1 and JUPITER F1 are the new red chard hybrids that combine high yields, homogeneity, erect bearing and high quality standards.

VENUS F1 yields its best results during the cold periods thanks to the early cycle and the excellent resistance to leaf redness, while JUPITER F1 has a darker and rounded leaf, with more intense and marked petiole and veins, thus maintaining excellent quality standards even in hot periods.

TORO ROSSO is the new late Bull's Blood variety, with a great homogeneity and dark color even in summer.

In addition to the aforementioned species, Maraldi can supply a wide range of brassicas for the production of baby leaf and other specialties.
