"Chinese professional horticulture is growing fast"

Thirty hectares here, twenty hectares there. The Chinese horticultural industry is growing really fast. Xander van der Zande of Dan Dutch sees the developments in the market. "This is just the beginning, provided the increase in scale proves successful." The company will be present at Horti China in Qingdao this week.

China's horticultural fairs
Events related to horticulture are being organized almost monthly in China, often with a local focus. Hortiflor and Horti China are the only international events. This week HortiChina will be held in Qingdao, the event is mostly focused on vegetable and fruit growing. Last year the event was held in Shanghai, this year it is held in a new location in a known area with a bright future in horticulture. "The province of Shandong is and will be the vegetable garden of China," says Xander van der Zande of Dan Dutch. The company will be present at Horti China in Qingdao this week. "It's good to show yourself. It's a good opportunity to receive our partners and introduce our product to new entrants of the industry."

Upscaling
"Chinese professional horticulture is growing fast. Large Chinese multinationals are investing in the construction of greenhouses of sometimes up to 30 hectares," says Xander. "This is just the beginning, provided the increase in scale proves successful. Building greenhouses with all their facets is an art, but the crux lies in the efficient and professional guidance of the cultivation, labor, and climate. The goal is after all to cultivate quality tomato, strawberry, or potted rose."

Dan Dutch helps with this. "Our product is aimed mainly at irrigation within horticulture, and specifically ebb- and flow irrigation. For the cultivation of potted plants and also for the propagation of young vegetable plants. Together with the Danish partners of Dan Dutch, Staal&Plast and Danvan, we offer this specialism together with our local partners and installers. We believe in local partners and their growing expertise, and our advice helps with this. That is why we often go out into the field, visit the growers and make sure our product meets their needs."

European products
After all, the demand for quality European products is large in the Chinese sector, and the question for improvement is often posed. The company, therefore, expands as needed. "Alumat-Zeeman delivers the ventilation- and screen systems, Hortimat the new machines, like pipe rail carts and crop shredders. In this way we are even more complete and we can help our partners along. We have already realized some great projects that we are proud of. From Kunming, Guangzhou, Nanchang and Shanghai to Shandong. Together with our local installers. We make quality together."

Horti China takes place from September 19 - 21 in Qingdao. Dan Dutch will be at stand N2A038 in the Holland pavilion.
